PICA is an eating disorder which sees people often eating non-edible items. The word PICA comes from the Latin word for magpie. These birds are known to have large appetites and be indiscriminate in their diets.
PICA is a feeding eating disorder in which someone eats non-food substances. However, what you need to keep in mind is, sufferers will have the compulsive need to consume non-food or non-nutritive items or edible items generally not consumed in their pure forms.
During this workshop, we will discuss the various forms of PICA, what they are and the types of items consumed. We will look at how it can be diagnosed. We will also look at the dangers of this eating disorder as well as some of the possible causes.
The workshop will discuss some common associated conditions linked to the disorder, such as Autism and mental health conditions before looking at supports for PICA and how to manage this very complex condition.
We will look forward to welcoming you onto this workshop. A certificate of completion is available upon completion of the workshop. (terms and conditions apply)
